HELPFUL TIPS FOR  NOUN NEW STUDENTS TAKING THEIR FIRST E-EXAMINATION (2022_1 E-Exam)

BY NOW WE SHOULDN’T BE TELLING YOU TO GET TO SCHOOL 30MINS AHEAD OF EXAM TIME.

1. LOGGING IN TO TAKE YOUR EXAM: 

   Old students by now should know how this works. But for the new students logging in is as simple as ABC. When you get into the exam hall, you will be assigned a space to take your exam. A seat, a table, and a computer, either a desktop computer or laptop. Don’t panic both operations are the same. You will be shown an icon either at the top left or top right on the screen. Click the icon and a login page will be displayed. Insert your matric number in lowercase (small letters) as your username and password, then click login. Immediately you log in, check the left side of your screen, and you will see your course slated for that period. Let’s say you are having HCM131 at 8:00am. By 8:00am when you log in you will find HCM131, just click on it and immediately the exam page will be displayed for you to start attempting your exam.





2. BE CAUTIOUS OF TIME: 

   While taking your exam, the most important thing is to be cautious of the time. During your exam, you will be presented with a countdown timer on the screen, make sure to always check the countdown timer to know how to manage the time you have left. Don’t sleep on one question, once you don’t know the answer to a particular question, just skip and move to another. The skipped questions will always be available for an attempt until you run out of time. Look by the right-hand side of your screen, you will see a numbering either from 1-70 or from 1-100, depending on the course unit. Now if you look at the numbering you would see that the boxes containing some numbers are white and black while some are just white. The ones with white and black are the Questions you have attempted, while the white or blank ones indicate that you haven’t attempted or you skipped them.

3. TIP TO GET FILL-IN-THE-GAP ANSWERS:

   We all know that NOUN is sweet but na Exam kill am, especially fill-in-the-gap questions. For the new students who don’t know much about NOUN E-exams, we have two types of questions, multi-choice questions (MCQ) which are popularly known as OBJECTIVES, and FILL BLANK QUESTIONS (FBQ) popularly known as FILL IN THE GAP or Subjectives. The important and helpful thing most students don’t know is that some of the fill-in-the-gap answers can be found in the objectives. So you have to be smart, you need to read the question and understand it before you start picking your answers. 





4. CALCULATOR FOR CALCULATION COURSES:

   By now I’m sure you all are aware that you can’t go into the hall with anything aside from your clearance documents, your ID card, and also your pen. YES! Any other material taken into the hall is counted as exam malpractice or misconduct. I know by now, the question in your mind is, how do we solve math, and how do we calculate with a calculator? Well, in the hall you will be provided with a blank sheet, if you are not provided then ask any of the invigilators. Now for a calculator, every system has an inbuilt calculator, which should help. 5. SUBMISSION OF EXAM: 

   After attempting the questions, you are to submit them so as to view your score/grade. Once you are done, click on SUBMIT, then click on SUBMIT ALL again to confirm your submission. Once you submit you will be presented with your score and grade, I don’t want to go deep into the explanation of score, grade, GPA, and CGPA. But make sure you focus on the grade and forget about the score. The grade is most important as that’s what you will be adding to your TMA score to know your total grade for that particular course. The grade is over 70, so if you get to see grade-20, it means you scored 20/70, then you add your TMA score to the 20 you just scored to confirm your total grade. Let’s say for example you scored 20/70 in HCM131 and scored 20/30 during your Tma, Then you add 20+20 which is 40, and that 40 is over 100 (40/100). Which means you have an “E” for that course? As 40 is categorized under “E”. This is how you know your fate even before the release of the official result. 6. HOW DO NOUN SET QUESTIONS?

   Gone are those days when NOUN sets the same questions for all students and randomizes them for each student. Now every man for himself as NOUN now uses what we call “QUESTION BANK”, this means that there is a database where hundreds or even thousands of questions are saved, then 70 or 100 questions are randomly selected for each student in the hall. This means that your colleague sitting beside you can’t really help you as the questions being set aren’t the same.

7. DO TMA QUESTIONS HELP?

   Lastly, I see some new students really depending on TMA questions in preparation for exams. Well, you might just be sitting on a bicycle because NOUN hardly set TMA questions. The best you can do is to get all available past questions you can lay your hand on and also purchase valuable exam summaries if you can afford them, if not, then the past questions are very much ok.

Also, past questions and answers are very vital! Don’t joke with them; focus on them during the exam, and read your course materials months or weeks before the exam.
